REGULA BENEDICTI

The grand Benedictine monasteries Göttweig and Altenburg are with their history since the early middle ages and their baroque splendor one the most inspiring and impressive religious places of Austria and entire Europe. 


Since over thousand years this monasteries engange in caring and welfare, support and creating culture and being the center of the life and creation for their sourrounding.

I am an accredited guide in both monasteries. 


For a visit of a monastery a time of minimum 2-3 hours should be calculated. The travel from vienna takes not more than one hour for both of them, the distance between Göttweig and Altenburg is approximately a 45 minutes   drive through the beautiful valley of the river Kamp , along hills with old castles, vineries and small villages , older than Vienna itself. 

Heartland of Austria.

Long before the new capital Vienna was founded in the early middle ages, the valley of the river Kamp was cultural center through hundred of years for more than one nation ..... Old and haunted ancient ruins on hills and rocks  with splendid renaissance  castles, old palaces with famous ghosts.... a lot to see and to discover including fine restaurants, blackwater lakes and  upon request walking tours with surprising ends....

THE CASTLES IN THE NORTH EAST " WOODQUARTER"

Long before the first residence of Austrian Dukes was built in Vienna in the location " Am Hof " the castles in the north east were cultural and political center in Middle Europa. 

Today some are in ruins, some have been rebuilt to famous castles. We are visiting one of the first homes of austrian rulers, haunted spaces and beautiful renaissance palaces.

Long before the " The league of the city of Horn 1608" was covenanted, acceptance or at least  tolerance of the new protestant movenement was fought for in Augsburg. Soon Austria was protestant .

How would the history of Europa have deveoped if the promise including in the above rule would have been kept ?
